Many people believe in myths about spaying and neutering. Here’s a reality check.
Myth: I should wait until the cat has one litter before getting her spayed.
Reality: it’s best to have female cats spayed before they’re sexually mature (so before four months old) to prevent unwanted kittens and to reduce their chance of getting certain cancers by 85%.
Myth: the cat will no longer hunt mice if s/he is sterilized.
Reality: If a cat likes to hunt mice, s/he will continue to do so after sterilization.
Myth: spaying or neutering will change the cat’s personality.
Reality: Male cats will become less aggressive, but that’s a good thing. Otherwise, the only thing sterilization will change is the cat’s ability to procreate.
